Working Fire – Willis Street, South Hempstead

Late Monday night, June 23rd, 2025 @ 23:55 hrs, South Hempstead FD, along with mutual aid companies, responded to a report of a basement fire on Willis Street off Central Avenue.
Upon arrival Chief Spatz transmitted a working fire.  Fire was located on the first floor of a two-story Cape-style private dwelling, with extension to the upper floors and basement.  Three hand lines were stretched and put into operation to bring the fire under control.

One firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital by South Hempstead Ambulance 743 with non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire was placed under control within 30 minutes, and the cause remains under investigation. The residence was reportedly vacant at the time.
